Oct 7 Logan vs Davis Bombers
|
| |
Logan vs Davis, Sunday, October 7th, James Woodward Park, Layton UT.
RESULTS:
After the rain and snow already battered the Layton cricket park on two consecutive days last week, chances of play were really slim on Sunday. After great bit of ground work done by Davis players, the game finally started at 1 pm Sunday afternoon. Davis won the toss and decided to bowl, first time in the season.
Logan innings:
The usual pair of Rohit and Kapil started the proceedings. Conditions were very damp and soggy for the bowlers initially but still the opening bowlers from Davis kept a descent line and length to restrict Logan. Logan had a descent start, and with 25/0 they were looking in great mood to set Davis an imposing total. Then came the star of the day, Omar, started of with couple of shot pitch stuff but then got it right in his very first over and got two quick wickets. Raza, Rohit and Vish kept a good line and length on the other end. Kapil came back strongly in his second spell and mixed his deliveries well enough to fox the Logan batsmen. He was rewarded with 3 wickets where as Omar was the real star picking his first 5 wickets hall. From Logan Chandu was the only batsman who could face the fury of Davis bombers. Yet again Logan, after a confident start, was bowled out for 102.

Davis Innings
Chasing 102 for yet another victory this season, there were some early hiccups for Davis. Kapil, captain of Davis, promoted himself up the order to inject some flamboyance but was brilliantly caught at short point. Sai top edged Ravi, to give him his first wicket. Roland was promoted up the order and played some crispy on drives until he was caught on midon. At 22/3 Davis were looking down until Omar and Rohit came on to the crease. After some early lives both the batsman capitalized and cautiously made their way through the first 13 overs. New additions like Michael Jackson in Logan’s team, who was a real treat to watch for everbody since he had the weirdest action ever seen in cricket history, thwarted the way of Davis by bowling good tidy line. But Omar and Rohit played him off, and then got Davis into a descent position. Then came Shashi, Murlitharan of a spinner, and was wacked for 2 fours and six in the same over by Rohit changing the complexion of the game. Omar took the initiative on the other end and kept rotating the strike and smacking an odd boundary .Against the run of play, Rohit was LBWed by Shashi, at the score was 92/4. He made crispy 37. After the brilliant 70 runs partnership came to an end, Omar finished of the proceedings in style with a lofted cover drive.
Final score-106/4 in 19.5 overs

Sept 24th Twenty20 World Cup Championship

September 24th, India vs Pakistan in Twenty20 World Cup Championship
RESULTS:
India have won the inaugural World Twenty20 in South Africa after a thrilling final in which arch-rivals Pakistan fell five runs short of their victory target of 158 in Johannesburg .
They were up against it when Umar Gul (3-28) helped restrict them to 157-5, which Gautam Gambhir's 75 dominated.
But RP Singh struck twice early on and Irfan Pathan took 3-16 as a succession of batsmen tossed away their wickets.
Misbah-ul-Haq (43) smashed three sixes in a Harbhajan Singh over and one more in the final over off Joginder Sharma but was caught to end an amazing game.
It brought a hugely entertaining tournament to a fitting climax and was always likely - after all the teams tied their group game and there was a similar frenzied atmosphere when the latest instalment in their rich rivalry commenced at a packed Wanderers.
Gambhir was a figure of calm assurance, however, after debutant Yusuf Pathan and Robin Uthappa perished with mis-timed heaves during a frenetic opening.
He placed and timed the ball elegantly, particularly through the covers, as he brought up his fifty in 38 balls.
The left-hander put India on course for a formidable total, but Yuvraj Singh - India's hero against England and Australia - never got going as Gul exerted control with his clever variations in pace and length.
Gul took a return catch after Yuvraj top-edged a pull and sent skipper Mahendra Dhoni's leg-stump flying as the scoring slowed dramatically between the 14th and 18th overs.
Gambhir quite literally hurt Gul's figures by smashing the ball into the scoreboard over the mid-wicket fence but Gul had the last word by having him snapped up at short fine-leg pouched the ball to become the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 13.
Sharma collected successive fours off Yasir Arafat and Mohammad Hafeez helped a swipe off Sohail Tanvir over the wide long-on boundary to take the score past 150.
But India still had a lot of work to do to clinch their first major silverware since the 1983 World Cup final and deny their neighbours the chance to emulate their 1992 50-over triumph.
Their prospects looked brighter when Hafeez guided RP Singh's fifth ball to Uthappa to slip and Kamran Akmal lost his off-stump to an inswinger from the left-arm paceman.
But as long as Imran Nazir stayed at the crease the run rate was never likely to be an issue.
He battered two fours and two sixes off an atrocious first over from the unruly Sree Santh which cost 21 runs.
Younus Khan was nowhere near as convincing, although he managed to get bat on ball to collect successive leg-side fours off Santh to take the team past 50 in the sixth over.
The innings then capitulated from 52-2 to 77-6 as Dhoni's bowling changes took the pace off the ball.
Nazir, who went into the game with a groin problem and was refused a runner, was short of the crease when Uthappa's throw from mid-off hit the stumps.
Younus holed out to mid-on, while skipper Shoaib Malik and dangerman Shahid Afrid, who went first ball, tossed their wickets away with ambitious heaves off Irfan Pathan.
The seamer cleaned up Yasir Arafat to end a brief revival but Misbah-ul-Haq swung off-spinner Harbhajan between cow corner and long-on, and Tanvir flicked the returning Santh for two more maximums to provide a massive twist in the tale.
Crucially, Santh ended the over by knocking out the tail-ender's off-stump and RP Singh cleaned up Gul with his penultimate delivery.
Joginder Sharma was entrusted with the final over and began with a horrible wide and when Misbah battered another six down the ground the game looked up but Misbah's gamble of trying to loft it over the keeper's head backfired horribly.

Vish & Sai opened the bating but soon Logan got 2 vital breakthroughs & got both openers out. In came the Rohit & the Captain Kapil & they steadied the innings with a lot of Singles & rotated their strike. Both Rohit & Kapil Hit Huge Sixes in their innings & were out for 13 each. Then came Irfan who made sure no more wickets fell for a while & made a Solid 10 ( all singles ). Now, Omar & Raza were at the crease, with Logan trying to dictate terms & dominate the game. ( As we all know both Omar & Raza live in their own Time Zone :) ..... they thought Today was 4th. of July & started their own Pyrotechnics show on the ground.
Both Omar & Raza started hitting Logan bowlers all over the ground mercilessly & taking sneaky singles which had the Logan players at their wits end. By now, Omar & Raza had taken the initiative away from Logan. Especially in one over by Atul, Raza & Omar hit him for 3 Sixes !! By now Logan was in a Panic mode & a Little frustrated. But the kept their cool & their ever dependable bowler Swadesh got both Omar & Raza out in quick succession. Omar was the Highest sorer with 25 & Raza scored a fantastic 15. Rajeev, Ian, Vijay & Adeesh got some cheeky singles at the end & got the Davis Bombers Total to a respectable But in No way threatening total of 117. Logan Bowlers Swadesh got 4 wickets & Ravi got 2 crucial wickets.

LOGAN BATTING
This is where the real Battle started between the 2 teams. Davis Bombers were absolutely determined to Defend their total but were fully aware of the new Batting strength of Logan with inclusion of Chandu & Bhavik. The New Ball handed over to Rohit & Kapil & both of them were extremely focused on the task at hand & Rohit was spitting Venom on the pitch right from the 1st. bowl. Rohit Clean Bowled Vishal in his very 1st over. Logan was 0 for 1.
Next over, KAPIL’s 1st & He bowled a peach of a delivery to Asif, which pitched on the off stump and moved away from the batsman & got a thick edge & Vish took a nice catch in the slips. Logan was 2 down for 4 runs. Rohit then bowled one bowl at the speed where Brett lee & Shoab Akhtar would have been embarrassed & Cartwheeled Ravi's stumps. Logan was down 3 in 3 Overs.
In KAPIL’s next over ( 4th of the Innings ) Bhanu hit 2 delightful Sixes but Kapil had the last laugh as he got Bhanu Out on the Long Off with a Brilliant catch by Raza. Logan was down 4 wickets in 4 Overs. Davis had their Dream start ...... But Logan team had some other ideas all together !
Shounak ( Logan Captain ) steadied their innings with some sensible play & hit a huge six as well. RAZA got Shounak out to a nice catch by Irfan. Both Ian & Vish were bowling impeccable line & length not giving away anything. Vish got Atul caught & then got the Danger Man Bhavik stumped by Vijay the Wicket Keeper, who with his quickness behind the wicket took the bails off even before Bhavik could turn around & found himself about 5 feet away from the crease. VIJAY did a spectacular job behind the wickets today & gave solid confidence to all the bowlers.
BUT THERE WAS A BIG PROBLEM ...... CHANDU & SHASHI dug in & refused to get out.
They played with extreme care & made sure that the bad bowls were dispatched away to the boundary. This pair had Kapil sweating bullets & all the Davis players gathered around many times & strategized how to get rid of them. Both of them took the score steadily towards the target. By this time Vish, Ian, Rohit & Kapil were all bowling at their best & still with no luck. It was a Clash of Sheer determination of the two Teams. With Ian's tight bowling & Rohit's fast pace the asking run rate started to climb & Logan needed 30 runs in the last 3 Overs with only 2 wickets in hand but Chandu & Shashi still at the crease.
Kapil had to strategize with his Sr. team members to make sure that they won this game today ! There was the steely resolve in his eyes & mind & he made sure that all his mates knew that !! In the 23rd over Kapil got the breakthrough that Davis Bombers had been looking for & got Chandu Clean Bowled & Logan was 8 down ! Bombers were ecstatic !!
Now, Rohit made sure in the 24th. over that He kept the line & length tight. Rohit got Hemang out & now Logan was 9 down. As the last bowl of his over he bowled a sharp rising delivery & Shashi tried to pull it & top edged it on his face & got injured & that was the end of the game & DAVIS BOMBERS WON by 20 runs.
Indeed it was a game of twists & turns like a Harry Porter movie, It had its Action & drama from a James Bond Movie !

RESULTS:
Unfortunately, Provo’ club were unable to field a complete team. The Davis Bombers played a mixed team of some Provo players and Davis extra players. The game was fun filled even though theteams weren’t a full representation of the clubs. There were great displays of bowling, batting, and fielding! A great example of the flexibility of our league and friendships that only Crikcet can bring about.
